What Happened ????????
We have enjoyed this course for 20 years. I don't know what happened. The greens were in terrible shape, the tees even worse and the fairways burnt. They have multiple ponds on the course so watering should not have been a problem. The pace was slow because they let a fivesome play that would not let anyone play through.
Great Value
Good course for the money. Paid $54 for 36 holes with a cart. No water on the course was a negative
Open & Well Kept
The course grounds are nicely kept & is a forgiving play, as many fairways are adjacent. And the trees can be avoided.
It's worth the money to play 18. For sure.
this course is great for seniors
course is kept in very good condition, staff friendly and helpful
Overall worth the trip but could be much better
This course has always been a nice stop, some neat holes, greens are in good shape...fairways are pretty dry. My son and I can usually get through a round in 2 1/2 hours or less...4 hours and 15 minutes on a Wednesday mid day is awful. Very slow groups in front of us with no offer or ability to play through. Not sure why most courses refuse to monitor the play. Pace of play is killing this great game. Also...90 degrees and no sign of water anywhere...how hard is it to have a few coolers and a few bags of ice on the course.
Forget any review you have read that is over a year old
My wife and I had a sweetdeal for a few local golf courses. Blackwood was one included. We were hesitant to play because of written and word of mouth reviews. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYTHING BAD BEING SAID ABOUT THIS COURSE. That was then, this is now !!
The course was beautiful. Fairways were well manicured, greens were receptive. All in all, it was in beautiful shape ! Not the most difficult course in the world, but it is laid out nicely with beautiful views.
Wow! Best deal around!
Wow! I've played here in previous years and wasn't very impressed but this year Blackwood is easily the best course in the area(that allow public play). The greens were fast and still held, they made their fairways wider and the rough was cut down. Our group travels and we've played just about every course in the area, hands down this was in the best shape. I had the pleasure of speaking with their new Dierector of Golf and he explained that changes were made to increase the pace of play and to make the course easier for the average golfer. Whatever they are doing its working. It was busy when we played but we still finished in under 4 hours. The bar area still needs some work but I imagine that will change in the future under their new Director. I can't wait to play here again, and it's easily the best deal in the area for the price.
Grreat course for mid to high handicaps and those on a budget
Let me make this clear -- Blackwood is not Pebble Beach. This course is very wide open with only a couple of holes wheret water comes into play. The greens are perfect and the rough isn't punishing, so mid to high handicappers can really enjoy this course. Several sets of tees to choose from. Clubhouse is basic, so don't expect filet mignon. Perfectly priced ($41 on the weekends) and you can leave with a smile. Course gets a decent amount of play and balls tend to find opposing fairways, sometimes you feel like you need to wear a helmet and sounds of "four" are widespread. Warning -- Pace of play can be an issue! I'm a 14 handicap and just shot 88 and am asking myself why? Don't let the slope and course rating full you -- you can't take this course for granted.
