Great Value
I have played here several times over the past few years but I must say that I have seen a great improvement in the course this year. The greens and fairways are in excellent condition. They had a cart girl going around who was very friendly. The course is challening but has enough easy holes that it is still good for the novice golfer. For the money, Cherry Valley is amongst the best deals in the Poconos for golf.
Ideal Day
I deal spring day with the weather, course conditions were in great shape (well manicured greens and fairways). Fast play, never a wait from hole to hole, this is a course that you need to make your shots count as rolling fairways may leave you looking and loosing balls in the high rough flanking the fairways.
Great
It was a little hard to find, but once we did it was nice! Beautiful course! Played very fast!
Worst Customer Service Ever!
Rainy, soggy and unplayable. No one around, including the staff. No rain check. No flexibility, even though no one was playing at all. Said the course was open for play to make sure I didn't get a refund, but I went back an hour later and still no one. He blamed it on the golf service I used saying he was helpless (not) and the price was dirt cheap anyway?! Could have offered a later tee time when the weather was suppose to improve. We would have paid the difference for some flexibility. No way, Chip on the shoulder attitude. To make it even worse, he wouldn't even give a courtesy reply to my email explaining my situation. I have worked at courses and resorts in the area and played around the world. Worse service I have ever seen in 50 years of playing. The course looked OK, but I, my family and friends will NEVER play it. I figure this man cost owners several $100's of dollars in business and referrals over the next few seasons. Totally uncalled for. And sad. Ruined our weekend.
Needs new tee boxes
The course was in good shape except for the tee boxes. They were mostly dirt with patches of grass.
Better than expected
Based on the reviews posted here, I expected the course to be much worse. Yes, there were some tee boxes that didn't have much grass but similar to most courses in the area, when there hasn't been much rain, by August or September, they are all burned out. That being said, the greens were in excellent condition and the fairways were in good shape. There are some tight areas on the course but I wouldn't want to play a course that was wide open with no skill required. There was a shotgun outing in front of us and it slowed the pace of play considerably. This could have been managed better. Course knowledge is very important on this course. There are a couple quirky holes that have blind tee shots and require forced layups, and knowing what to expect around the turns would have made the round more enjoyable. All in all it was a great course especially for the money. One last piece of advice; bring plenty of bug spray, there are 4 or 5 holes where you can get dragged away by the gnats.
Sucks
Course is horrible. No one was at the pro shop when we arrived for our tee time
A neglected course that has fallen into disrepair
This course, once a very nice 18 hole mountain venue in the 70's, has fallen into major disrepair through neglect. Based on the overall condition of the course, there does not appear to be a greenskeeper on staff. The chemical program is greens only; the fairways are filled with weed grasses and the rough is totally unkempt and ill-defined. Water hazard streams are overgrown with weeds and non-maintained. Tee boxes are a maze of divots and bare dirt. There is no pro shop to speak of, just a cashier and one cooler for beverages. No water or beverage service was provided on course. No food service, clubhouse was closed. I will not be playing this course again.
Awful
By far the worst conditions I have seen on a golf course all year. I have occasion to play quite a few courses each year and this one was by far the worst. Fairways mainly crabgrass and burnt out in majority of places. Tee boxes had little to no grass in many cases. Greens had spots of clover growth on them. We played at a highly discounted rate, but for the first time ever I seriously considered getting my money back. It just isn't in good shape. I have played it in the past and while I would never had put it on the top of my list of nice courses, this time was by far the worst. Maintenance is severely lacking.
Improvements noted!
I didn't expect much from this golf course, but to my amazement, course conditions have improved significantly. I noticed five or six guys working on the course when I got there, and I hadn't seen that before at this golf course. Granted some of the tee boxes still need some work, but I will put this course back on the list of acceptable places to play while in the Poconos. The front nine plays a little quirky with a strange layout, but I decided to embrace the unconventional holes and have fun with them. It made my day much more enjoyable. There are elevation changes and the greens are small, but if you're playing well you can shoot a low round! The back nine is short with a basic layout and few hazards. Truthfully, I swore off this course a couple years ago, but form what I see now, I'll definitely come back.
Very good
Course was in good shape! Excellent staff! Very challenging hole locations.
Tricky Little Course
Golf Now customers are people too! The other reviewers were on the money, the guy in the pro shop has a horrible attitude. This is really doing this course a dis-service. If he is not an owner my suggestion is to fire him immediately!! On the course the other staff was great. The course was in ok condition. The greens were very good. The fairways "rock" hard you cannot hit down on the ball. With a bit of re staffing this is a nice little course.
Great course for the money
The front nine are a little tighter and makes for more of a challenge and then the back nine opens up. Friday bring a friend day (2 people for $33 with a cart for a course that I think is very nice is a great deal.
Waiting for the rain
It was a dreary day. Even the staff said why are you going to play in the rain. But we made it through before the rain came. It was enjoyable because no one push us to keep up and we played at our own pace. The front nine was challenging still (we played the day before). I liked the course.
Good course
This course has a challenging front nine where I lost a few balls the back nine is challenging too.but didn't loose ball. We play here every year when on vacation. We love the price and the challenge. It rained on hole number 15 and it pour down on hole 18 but for the price I can't complain. We did finish .
It was ok but....
Had a 7:08 am Tee time. I show up 30 minutes prior and there is no one else here. Pro shop guy shows up at 6:55. I give him about 5 minutes to get set before I walk in. Ask to use the restroom and he goes off on a tirade aimed at me about every friggin guy that walks thru the door has to use the bathroom. Claims I didn't give him enough time to even turn on the lights. Then sends a group of regulars out ahead of me, presumably because I have a woman in my group. If I didn't have my wife with me I would have gave it right back. I have dealt with this guy before. He does not care for GolfNow customers. Claims the course lost $20K worth of business because everyone uses the "hot deal" only saving Grace was the starter Jim. He retrieved a head cover for me, other than that I will NOT repeat. Too many other quality courses in the area with a lot less attitude
Course is somewhat hilly with a lot of side lies
We have played this course many times and find it to be acceptable to the manner that we would like to play golf. Staff is extremely good at helping to make this an enjoyable day of golf.
This course is very hilly!
Played this course on Friday 9-20-2013! The fairways and tee boxes are in rough shape. The greens are nice but slow! Course is extremely hilly with blind shots and slopping fairways and uneven greens! I'm not a fan of mountain courses! Price was nice 26.00 with cart!
Tough course, challenge your skills
Nice challenging course. Make sure you take a lot of extra balls with you. Fortunately we were not held up during our round because they closed the course at 7pm when we had a 3:08pm tee time.
