Play it..
The course is a pleasure. I wrote earlier about a problem I experienced but when you book at a private club, you are committed to that time slot.
Its no reflection on the course. It remains in great shape. It is easily on par with the high fee public courses in the area.
Play it while you can...
Beautiful course
I played this course as I knew it is a private facility. I needed a fast pace of play and I was extremely successful as it took under 3 hours! The fairways were in great shape but had plenty of leaves so finding ball could be a challenge. The greens were fast and also in good shape. Greens were smaller then most courses I play and had some challenging pin placements. Overall I would play again! Please note there were no indications of aeration so not sure if already took place or not.
Great Value
We were able to play on a great Golf Now deal, I think somewhere around $40. At this price, and where it is located without a lot of good public options, it is a steal.
Course has some cool holes, and can be tricky when the wind is blowing and depending on where some of the pins are located.
I like the layout, wouldn't pay $80 to play, but anytime I can get a Golf Now deal I will jump at it
Excellent Value For Money
Tee to green, the course is in very good shape. Greens are challenging but fair if the pin placements are reasonable (they were not in my last round). Otherwise, you would be hard pressed to find a better value in the immediate area. The beautiful Fall foliage adds to the enjoyment of the round.
Edgmont CC
Greens are impossible!!! Facilities are old and not well maintained.
Good Deal
Course was in very good shape. Pace was excellent as the course was wide open.
Unfortunately, there were a lot of leaves on the course and the sun was low so we spent a lot of time looking for balls, even when we knew approximately where the balls had come to rest. I would suggest playing the course earlier in the day.
no worth more then 25.00 dollars
I see some of the prices at 80.00 bucks, you will be very upset if you pay that kind of money, only worth about 25.00 max. more then likely will be houses built on it by next year.
Great Day With Old Friends
My friends and I were looking for a course somewhere in the middle of us all, plus we were looking for a good deal. We saw that we could get Edgmont for under $40 and went for it. Weather was great and the court conditions were excellent. The greens were very fast with some hills--learned the hard way that I had to be very gentle with my putts. The traps were in good condition, at least the ones I went in. A classic old time course.
Has Potential. Needs Some TLC.
The course itself is on a nice parcel of land with rolling hills and some nice views. Don't let the total yardage fool you. The course is deceptively long, due to their only being two par 5 holes and a par 70 course.
The greens were in very good shape, but you can tell that the rest of the course could use some attention. Bunkers were unkept and the grass on the fairways was high. It also looks like it had been a long time since any maintenance was done on the older buildings and many of the trees on the course should be taken down and many are in need of some major pruning . I guess being in bankruptcy protection will do that.
The banquet/dining facilities were not in use and there did not seem to be much member activity even though we finishes our round at 6:30 on a Saturday. It's a shame, since the course has a nice layout and setting with plenty of elevation changes.
I am glad we booked on Golfnow for the discount, so for $40 it was a good value and would come back again. Hopefully they get things turned around.
Classic
Superb setting, excellent greens. Great location with easy access.
nice course
I have always enjoyed the course layout and had an enjoyable time playing a round of golf at ECC. The conditions were fine, and perhaps the fairways were a bit hairy, and the traps a bit hard, but the greens were very good, and overall the conditions were far above most public tracks, and if you need perfection pay the $100 and go to Glen Mills. Overall this course at any golfnow price is a true bargain. And the staff are all very friendly and helpful even IF you are using the golfnow specials. I hope that everything works out for them as I would hate to see more McMansions planted there as well as the fact that the area is void of good affordable golf courses.
Private CC???
Great layout with beautiful views. That's the good news. Fairways must not have been cut in days. Even after a worker mowed over one of our golf balls on the fairway we were playing, the fairway was still high! Traps were completely ignored by the grounds staff. One hole didn't even have a flag stick. When we asked one of the staff about it, he said, "we can't find it". We were excited to get out on a "private" course but it was not in the condition to warrant the $80 greons fee. Could be a great value if well maintained but not worth the premium fee.
Only Worthwhile with a Hot Deal
I live down the street from here and enjoy the convenience factor, but will only play when I can get a Hot Deal. It's definitely not worth paying the regular rate of $80 - at that price Glen Mills or Broad Run is a better choice.
The course is in decent shape, not immaculate like one would expect of a private club. The practice facilities are adequate - driving range, putting green, and short game area. The front nice plays better than the back - holes 7 and 8 are especially challenging doglegs and many of the holes have nice elevation changes. The back nine is pretty flat and there is stretch of three par 4's that all play similarly so it's not as interesting as the front. Overall the course is wide open and pace of play is fast. The staff there is hit or miss depending on who is working the desk. One big downside is that they will not allow you to walk the course unless you are a member.
If you are a local then this is a good course to check out. I do not recommend driving a long way just to play here - there are better options out there.
The private public course
I'm a local to the Edgmont area and have driven by this course hundreds of times always wanting to play it, but not able to afford the private club membership fees. Recently the course has been posting available tee times on golfnow.com, and I've learned it's in a last ditch effort to raise revenue before filing for bankruptcy. It is evident by the condition of the course, that the management has drastically reduced the maintenance budget. Fairways are covered in weed patches, rough is weedy and long, most bunkers are filled with dirt like sand, and the greens have are not being aerated regularly. The clubhouse appears to be falling apart, and the snack shop has a foul odor. But the positives are that the plot of land the course sits on is beautiful, and the design of the course is logical and somewhat challenging. Unfortunately can't see this staying private much longer, and would not be surprised to see this old course be a "tear down".
The hand is wrigting on the wall
The good, they try but are so under staffed. Raking traps at 2:30 in the afternoon? Some traps hadn't been raked in who know. The club house is falling apart, walkways are crumbling.
Greens, nice
fairways, a little long
tee boxes, hmmmmm
It's a shame, the writing is on the wall.
Was it worth $30 yes,
Great course
Highly recommend this beautiful course. Greens and fairways in great shape. Can't beat Thea price and value.
Great value
Played the course at the Golf Now deal of $40 - it's a great course for $40 and in a spot that need better public golf options.
Course (greens especially) were in better condition than the last time I played. There was no one out on the course, we played in about 4 hours, but were in no rush and could have played in 3 if we really wanted to - the group enjoyed the round.
A lot of elevation changes and hills, ball can be on some funny lies - wind can play a big role as well
Avoid
Golfnow provides a service. Edgmont does not want Golfnow customers and makes no bones about it. The head pro Craig, could not be more rude if he wanted to be. I have booked through Golfnow on 40+ occasions. The course is good. The pro is absolutely miserable. This is my first negative review. They earned it.
great experience.
Nice maintained green. Well designed layout. Will play again.
Private/versus publici
Course was in pretty good condition. But as a private course expected a little bit more. But for the price I payed on golf now I would play again for that price.
