Royal Manchester Golf Links
About
Situated along the shores of the Susquehanna River, Royal Manchester Golf Club is tucked away in the rolling hills of northern York County. The course is just a few miles outside Harrisburg but the traditional links design will transport you to the seaside courses of the British Isles. Like the Old Course at St. Andrews and Royal Latham, which served as the inspiration, the golf course has an open, windswept landscape with only two bodies of water. The 15th, the longest par 3 on the course, is the only hole set among the few trees that dot the landscape. The most formidable challenge comes from the prevailing winds as well as the strategically placed bunkers. Royal Manchester Golf Club finishes with a memorable view of its signature waterfall that cascades down into a sparkling pond.

Fast and true greens.
Royal Manchester Golf Club is premier for the central PA area and beyond. The practice areas are above expectation and worthy of charging admission but, they don't. The course is challenging, even for experienced golfers. Intermediate players should expect to score higher than average. I'd recommend his course to anyone looking to see where they need to improve playing abilities because Royal Manchester GC will show you within the first 3-4 holes played. P.S. Bring extra balls if you're not a 100% straight shooter.
Great place great price
Royal Manchester is in amazing shape and it was a real treat to play
Hit it straight and no issues. High grass along sides.
Typical Lynx course with high grass along the sides and select areas. Plenty of room but if you spray a shoot into the high grass it will be hard to find. Suggest taking a few extra balls. Course is in great shape and has lots of fun holes with small challenges.
All-around great experience
I have wanted to play this course for a long time, and it did not disappoint. Got a great rate online, and when I arrived at the course I found the staff to be very helpful. The practice facilities are outstanding. The course is beautiful, as long as you stay in the fairway. The greens are large and fast, just as many others have mentioned. The restaurant is also excellent, with a helpful staff and good menu. I will definitely be returning.
slow overpriced well maintained
our round took 5 hours. midweek . The course is nice but not that much nicer than other courses around and they charge over double most other courses . it's not an easy course so I think people play slower. Some people should just learn to avoid courses they can't handle or play the red tees I guess . golf cart stop working on the 15th hole. Had to have someone come rescue us . i'm sure this is rare but it happened .
Only 1 issue all day
After looking forward to playing this course for months, the day came and it was nasty, gray, and rainy. At a few points there was such a downpour you couldn't see 100 yards out. That wasn't the bad part though. We arrived an hour before our tee time thinking we could loosen up, putt, and prepare for our round. Instead we were told we are going to be paired with another group that was already on the putting green, so as soon as they are ready we're cleared to go. Not to pleased, we head out to our cart only for another associate to tell us the tee is open and we should head on down to the tee instead of walking up to the practice green to meet up with the only other two people at the course. We did not take his "suggestion" and walked up to the twosome on the practice green who were just as befuddled as we were about the rush to get us on the course. So no warm up, and a couple frustrated putt attempts we all drive to the first tee to start the round.
The first hole sucked as you can imagine, not because of the course but the experience leading to the first tee. Other than that here's my course review: RUN, DONT WALK TO THIS COURSE! Carts, new and fast, tee boxes all level and full of grass, fairways beautifully manicured, and the greens...well the greens were the best I've ever seen. Amazing layout, conditions, all in all a pretty good day. We didn't even care about the rain and drove home soaked and didn't mind. Will go back but apparently you need to get there 2 hours ahead of time to warm up so plan on that.
Put this one on your bucket list
Great golf course, perfect conditions, and a challenging layout. The fairways were fairly wide but make sure you hit them. The rough is very penal. Go beyond the rough with a shot and you get yourself into tall fescue and will be lucky to find your ball. The greens were recently top dressed with a bit of sand but still rolled fast and true. They were some of the best greens I have ever putted on. The greens also held shots well and very fairly undulating. There were plenty of memorable holes and hard to chose a favorite. I did like the par 5 9th. A shorter par 5 with the risk/reward second shot over water to the green. The beverage cart was out in which we took advantage of that a few times on a hot day. Make sure you get there early and take advantage of the beautiful and large practice facility there. One of the best I have seen. I drove over 2.5 hours to play this course and I am going to take the drive again later this summer to play. It was that good.
Do yourself a favor - Play here
Like I state in the title, play this course. Apparently the course had some major problems with their greens last year which forced them to close the course. Well I can tell you this, the greens are excellent!. The entire course is in excellent condition. It is fun to play, the layout is fantastic, and everything about this place is in great shape.
Starting with getting the cart which was brand new and had a lot of "giddyup". It is a pleasure to ride in a cart that is so nice.
so, do yourself a favor, play this course. It is fun and in great shape.
Nice links course.
Royal Manchester is a very nice golf course. As long as you hit the fairways. Otherwise plan to be frustrated. So bring your A game or plenty of balls. Pace of play will be dependent on how long you or others search for you ball in the fescue grass that lines most holes. Overall positive experience. All negative feelings on the day were caused by my play not because of the course or the staff. Both were excellent!
Excellent course
Great layout, fast greens, high rough that punishes offline shots. Definitely a good test of your game. I cannot find a single negative thing to say about this course. It is a must play and well worth the drive.
Hidden gem
Course is well maintained, fast true greens. Worth the drive, true golfer test.
Best in County
Even though we played through a little rain, it was a good day for golf.
I've played most of the courses in the Susq Valley and they have the best greens in the area. Bar none.
Course in great shape. Excellent driving range, chipping and putting greens to get you warmed up.
Only downside. It is a links course. You must stay in short grass or it will be very penal. Still fun course to play.
The food is also excellent with knowledgable people greeting you at check in.
Would highly recommend you play this course.
Worth the trip.
A Blessing and a Curse
First visit and I was stunned by the quality of the putting surfaces. The greens were firm, rolled beautifully, and were in pristine condition=that was the blessing. The curse element was that you could not stop the ball on the green . Even lofty sand wedge shots rolled off into the rough. Don't know if conditions are always so severe-if so the USGA needs to rate the course again because it played much more difficult from the whites that the stated slope of 120.
Turf conditions on the rest of the course was also excellent but the greens are the star of the show at Royal Manchester. The course seemed to lack sufficient personnel to staff a busy course. The bag boy was helpful and server as the starter, There was no ranger all day and we fell behind a woman playing alone on a busy Friday. Fortunately she did not play 18 holes.
Can I Give It A 10
This is the best course I have played in a long time. The fairways were superb. The greens are IMMACULATE especially after the contaminated fertilizer problems of last year, Travel a 100 miles to play this course....make it a must...the course will not disappoint.....BobGolfIreland
Phoenix
Like the Phoenix, the greens at RMGC have risen from the ashes! Undoubtedly, the best greens in Central PA, public or private! Get there as soon as you can, to play these greens before they get over played. I've played Royal Man since it opened and it has never been in better condition!
True fast greens
Great price through golf now course great condition tee to green play this course 3 times year usually playing partner from Naples Florida thought it was excellent
Amazing course with perfect greens
Very beautiful course that is well maintained. The greens were the best I've played in years. I will definitely be back!!
Must-Play
Terrific golf course (and Raspberry Golf Trail option).
Exceptional layout, conditions and value.
(Appreciated the military discount.)
Very friendly service in pro shop & restaurant.
Superb practice facilities.
Tested my game - but fairly.
Must-Play in York area; worth the drive from DC area.
Comeback course
After a lost year, kudos to management and staff
for the excellent shape, condition and aesthetics of this facility! Greens ran true, were wet that day but
responded well to an assortment of shot angles
Perfect greens
The greens were back to perfect after damage the year before. Not their fastest, but very difficult to 2 putt from more than 30 feet. A great challenge, prepare to be frustrated if you can't keep it out of the rough.
