Tough greens, great condition
Crossgates always seems to be in great shape. The greens were lightning fast which was definitely a pain for me b/c I'm not much of a good putter, but the course was in very fine shape.
GReat layout that I would not play again because of the pace of play.
The starter and ranger are being paid to do essentialy nothing. The starter was positioned next to the first tee and she did not pair up twosomes of which she sent at least three in a row out behind a very slow foursome; when we saw the first tee was aerated we asked if the greens were aerated too and she didn't know. She offered no instruction or information about the course. We saw a ranger only twice: once breezing by us on 10 or 11 and again while waiting again for ten minutes on a tee box on the the eighteenth when a jogger ran past us down the cart path, which cut in front of the tee box, with the ranger sitting idly by! When questioned about the jogger the ranger did not seem concerned. So not only do you have to wait on golfers but joggers too! Ended up being a five hour round on a Wednesday morning. Unacceptable.
Great variety of hole layouts.
We travel to play this course a couple of times a year because it's usually in very good shape and a pleasure to play. The staff is always very friendly also.
Great local course for the price!
The staff in the pro shop are very customer service minded. I recently had a bad experience with a worker on the course and the staff in the pro shop was very prompt to appologize and correct the problem. It is a beautiful local course and very friendly staff to meet your needs. I suggest you give it a try!
enjoyable day
Had a great day playing this course. Interesting holes. Pleasant staff. Challenging course. Great day.
Horrible Pace of Play and Poor Conditions
Played there August 5th...A Monday at 2PM. Play was EXTREMELY slow. Called the pro shop from the 11th tee and they didn't seem to care. Last summer, we walked off at the 11th tee when we were at the 3 1/2 hour mark. That day, the staff did give us a coupon for a free round but it was frustrating nonetheless. I was told by a regular the staff stacks the playing groups too close together. Also, didn't know it until we got to the tee, but there is NO fairway on #15. It appeared to be in some stage of reseeding. Entire fairway was dirt.
course was backed up all day
Too many players were booked too close together. We enjoyed the front 9 with a lady single golfer. When she left, we did not join the 2-some in front of us due to the following:
Husband hit a blind tee shot on 7th and 2 guys in front of us got angry and stomped/imbedded his drive into the fairway. We thought they were off the fairway. It was not intentional on our part. Perhaps a sign should be posted on the tee to warn golfers of a possible problem on the 7th tee. We are very aware of golf rules and would never intentionally hurt anyone.
GolfNow recommended by a friend. Solid recommendation.
Good savings without a coupon/gift certificate. Easy process. Crossgates is a very player friendly course. Added challenges with the shorter distances made for very enjoyable round. Course plays through private community. No added noises, nor distractions. Great views.
This course has a many hills and valleys
This course has narrow fairways on difficult dog leg holes, and
the course needs seeding on several fairways, that are shaded
by eighty foot trees. The greens were bumpy and there were
many divots that weren't fixed. The price made the trip to play
here O.K, I just wish the conditions were better.
Needs some TLC.
Fairways have many bare patches, we had to play lift and place. Greens bumpy, speed OK but need rolling. Couple of holes in very bad shape. Water cooler at one hole empty despite very hot and humid conditions. Shame, great people and very cordial drink and restaurant staff.
Very Nice Course
Course was in great shape. Greens were rolling very true. Definite recommendation.
hard ground around putting greens
The greens are in fair condition other than that have fun.
Great course. Poorly Managed.
The course itself was great. The course layout is challenging, yet rewarding. However, our round took 6 hours! We were told there would be no starter. A course should always have a starter on a Saturday in the summer to help with pace of play. By the time we tee'd off on the second hole, there were 3 groups behind us waiting on the 2nd tee. This was unacceptable.
Decent with issues
Layout is good, a little on the short side and although sometimes tricky it became almost too much, with blind shots around extreme doglegs. Pace of play on this day was a big issue, there was no marshall to move the slow groups along.
CROSSGATE
NOT LONG , HOWEVER COURSE IS TIGHT OFF THE TEE . SHORTER HOLE REQUIRE PLACED SHOTS . GREENS ARE FAST & SLIPPERY
Best bunker sand in Central PA
Great course out behind Millersville University.
Well maintained, interesting layout. Best-maintained bunkers I've seen in years. A variety of holes that require different shots off the tee, sometimes a fade, sometimes a draw, sometimes a hybrid or 3 wood. A few blind tee shots. Greens were in great shape.
Pace of play was kind of slow, maybe due to the holiday weekend.
Keep it in play !
Not a wide open course. You need to think off the tee instead of just bombing it all the time. You still can though and if you are good off the tee, you can score !
"Shotmaker's" course. Good fairways and greens-poorly maintained bunkers
Played from the blues, this course is only 6,100 plus yards, but you may want to consider the whites at 5,755. I call this a "shotmaker's" course, because you do not want to automatically pull out the driver on every par 4 and one par 5 for that matter. Some holes you do not want to drive more than 200 yds. off the tee. There's lots of dog leg rights with woods on the right and water on the left. Hole #1 is the only dog leg left. Very nice fairways and appropriate roughs. Greens were in very nice shape, but could be faster. Although early in the season, most bunkers need new sand. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Short, challenging course for shot makers
5800 yards from the whites but don't let that fool you. Lots of dog legs and blind tee shots to keep it challenging. You can't just get out the #1 and club away from the tee. Be prepared for the hills and dales.
