Birdsfoot Golf Club
About
Birdsfoot Golf Club gets its name from the birdsfoot trefoil that covers the course, budding with small yellow flowers. Mature trees also blanket the course, making it an especially scenic round in the fall. The front nine has a links-style layout with more open holes while the back nine has a parkland landscape with trees framing most of the holes. What both nines have in common is the rolling terrain that provides some tricky uneven lies throughout. It is a golf course that requires a good deal of accuracy but it is not overly punishing if you are slightly errant. There are some good eagle opportunities on the course's par 4s and par 5s, though it is also home to four of the toughest par 3s in the Pittsburgh area.

Good play for the money
Got a great deal on GolfNow, otherwise I probably wouldn't play here. It has a great layout, and the fairways and rough are nice, but the greens could be softer, and the traps could be better.
Nice layout
Always enjoy the layout. Nice holes. Conditions were a little more rough then usual. Greens showed heavy play.
Nice layout
Bunkers were a mess. No sand just rocks and water. The cart I had would hardly run, and my GPS could not find the place.
Challenging, but fair.
A great course with several tee options to suit a players' level of ability. Some of the greatest landscape views on any golf course in Western PA. Teeboxes, Fairways and greens were in excellent condition. It was a very enjoyable round of golf.
The only suggestion would be for improved condition of the sand bunkers.
Great Course!
great conditions with the exception of the sand...fairways and greens were perfect
not what it used to be
Upon arrival we found the carts needing repairs as well as some cleaning. The range balls need to be replaced, many were not worth hitting. There is not enough sand in the bunkers, they were unraked and there were dandelions all through the rough
rocky unplayable traps. Spotty greens. Thin fairways.
Have played this course before, and I know it is early in the season, but I have never seen it in worse condition. The kicker was that course mngmnt actually had an employee golfing in front of everybody that teed off after 3pm to control the pace at "an average foursome speed "so nobody would make the turn too early and run into a womans league that was going off the other 9 at 5pm. Problem for me is that I was in a twosome AND ONLY PLAYING 9 HOLES. Frirst time I ever played a course that encouraged slow play.
Nice course
The course is in good shape. I really like the layout. The people who work there are very nice. The fairways are great and the greens are well maintained. There is one big problem - the bunkers. There is absolutely no sand in them - just dirt and rocks. There are a lot of bunkers. We ended up playing a free drop from them because they were unfair.
Excellent Play for the Cost
I felt like the Birdsfoot course was a very interesting course. The deep bunkers and elevation changes make for a difficult challenge on most holes. The back 9 is much harder then the front 9 and the course is well maintained. There was some minimal stacking that occurred on the course but it could be over looked. The only issue I had was the annoying ranger that acted like a police officer on the front 9. I can golf most courses and see a ranger maybe twice a round. This guy made an appearance on every hole on the front. Where was he on the back when everything was stacking up? Instead he was on the front rushing us because there were "prudent golfers finishing on 18. (BTW they sent all players off the back 9 to start.) He didn't make the round unenjoyale but he was annoying.
This course has a nice layout and challenging levels of tees.
Birdsfoot has established itself as a very nice course, with length and usually in top condition. The price was right using Golf Now, but the course was full of dandelions and the grass and greens needed cut, the bunkers were hard. The maintenance crew has definitely got to take better care of that usually pristine course.
Nice layout over hilly terrain.
A diverse set of holes over hilly terrain. You will need all of your clubs. Fives sets of tees so you can pick your length. The greens are fair with some multilevel challenges. The fairways are in good shape and have strategically placed hazards. The facility is well maintained except for the traps. Not sure why some of the traps tend to have small pieces of stone in them or bare spots. The sand is very coarse and heavy. Bottom line, stay out of the traps!
quality course for the money
For the first time playing this course, despite living in PA all my life, I was kicking myself for not playing here years ago. The course was well maintained and green as can be. The people at the clubhouse were very nice and accommodating. I would recommend avoiding the sandtraps to anyone with a weak wedge game. the bunkers are deep in parts and forced me to punch out to the side twice. Otherwise, great course for the money and I will definitely be back.
It's a long hitter's course.
If you enjoy severe vertical elevation changes in a landscape that is questionably not suited for golf course development; you may enjoy Birdsfoot. That is if you are not disturbed by a course policy which requires a ranger to push players to speed up play despite the fact the players are constantly one full hole ahead of the group behind them; as we were. Do not expect a club house. They have a cash register, a few shirts and hats, and a hot dog stand, that's it. Minimum amenities. Top dollar green fees.
Beautiful, but hilly and tough course
This has to be one of the tougher public golf courses in Western Pa. It's not like Grand View, where there is nothing to shoot at. You just have to play every shot correctly. Landing areas for the tee shots were generous, but just about every hole, the approach shot into the green was very challenging. You're battling all of the difficult lies onto the elevated greens in most holes. Greens are on the quicker side, but not grainy rolled very true. This course definitely beat me up, so I'm going to have to come back and do better the next time now that I know the course a little better.
Beautiful golf course
I have played at Birdsfoot twice, once in 2012 and once in 2013, and I will say that the course was better maintained the first time I played it, but in their defense the second time I played was rather early in the season and we were having pretty bad weather earlier that week. Other than the bunkers being a little wet and packed down the course was pretty nice, and since we booked our tee time through golfnow.com we got 50% off. So you basically get to play a rather expensive and beautiful course for an average price, so this course is definitely a great value!
Nice Links Course
Well-maintained course with some nice wooded scenic holes on the back nine. #12 is a nice, challenging hole downhill, and 13 is a nice tight scenic hole, especially in the fall. Bunkers lately are typically not well maintained.
Birdsfoot Golf Club
This is a great course during the year, with some nice holes to play. It is just the start of the year so I would say it is a hold for any play right now. The Bunkers were in very very bad shape. Other than that the greens wasn't bad for just the start of the year.
Well maintained for very early in the year
Just by pot luck chose this course while visiting the Pittsburgh area. Challenging course but a a lot of fun. Can be aggressive on the front 9 and you need to as the back 9 is more of a challenge. Course well maintained. Being very early and cold this season the course was fine. Were impressed that the tee boxes, fairways and the greens were in great shape for early April even with the cooler temps this season. Very friendly staff that makes you feel at home and wanting to come back for more. Not a stuffy atmosphere at all. Drive in and park, pick your cart and head to the club house. Excellent. Will be back later in the season.
Solid course that needs a chance to grow
I have played birdsfoot around 6 times. It is a great layout with challenging yet scoreable holes.
They seem to be getting as many people on as possible which slowed down pace of play on the back.
The greens are ok, but slow. I think the course will be in pristine condition around mid may if we get the rain.
