Aubrey's Dubbs Dred Golf Course
About
Aubrey's Dubbs Dred Golf Course sprawls across an idyllic landscape of rolling hills and farmland dotted with mature trees. The stunning views that span seemingly for miles make this course one of the most scenic in western Pennsylvania. The tranquil surroundings give the course an air of seclusion, but it's conveniently located just minutes from downtown Butler. Beyond the beautiful setting, the golf course itself offers a challenging yet fair round. The front nine provides a gentle start with softly rolling hills and medium-sized greens. The holes are mostly straightforward with few hidden tricks. The fairways are lined with trees but they are wide and forgiving. Aubrey's Dubbs Dred Golf Course's back nine gets tougher with more dramatic changes in elevation and fast-breaking greens. There are also more doglegs and strategically placed bunkers on the back nine.

Disappointment
Fairways are in good condition. Clover in bloom in the rough areas made the ball difficult to find. The greens, although small, are in good condition. The designer of the course should have stopped at 9 holes. The back 9 is treacherous at best, The back 9 holes were squeezed together and are ok if you like playing on the hill sides. If you have a fear of sand traps this is a good course for you as there is only one. The holes are poorly marked for distance and layout. The 16th hole is not marked. If it rains hard they have to close the back 9 because the bridges wash out. T Boxes are not level and some of the ladies and senior Ts did not seem to be part of the initial design. There were no Junior Tee boxes. Diet drinks were not available.
A Pleasant Surprise
My trio was not expecting the greens to be as quick as they were, and we really enjoyed it. Great breaks, trimmed fringes, and well-kept fairways highlighted the day. Beautiful Par 3s on the back nine, too.
A good one
Great greens. Good test. Overall it is a great
course that rewards good shots.
Tough Back 9
Aubrey's is always a fun course to play. I like the challenge of the back nine. The course was in great shape with nice soft greens.
Excellent Value for your money
If you're a player that needs to pull out your driver on every tee, this course will be a difficult test for you. The back nine requires precise shot placement and the greens are very firm and fast!
A definite test of your golf skills!
Course great, staff not the friendliest
Tee time was at 3:30, and while we did play a tad bit slow, the ranger continuously rushed us through last few holes, telling us the course closed at 8. Don't get why we were let out onto the back 9 at 6 o'clock then. But anyway...greens were very firm and a bit difficult to work with, but overall the course was in great shape and is always well-kept when we play there. Golfnow has great deals for the course and I'd highly recommend going there for a round. Just be prepared to bring A LOT of golf balls...you'll lose quite a few on the back 9
A Secretly Good Course
Me and 3 buddies played this course for free after winning a free 4-some during a charity tournament. We played the very next day, and the weather was okay (beautiful in the morning, breezy and a little rainy in the afternoon). The course was challenging to us (we played 2 v 2, best ball for $), and the winning team was only +4. The course itself was in pretty decent shape, and the back 9 was a lot harder then the front. It provided us with good elevation changes, tough pin locations, and decent rough.
WOW, awesome, true roll and fast greens
This is a great course, but becareful what you wish for, fast greens can double your putts in a heart beat.
Back nine is tough. ball placement is a must. One of the par 5's on the back isn't quite fair, but only because of where they put the pin that day. I'll know better next time
need some attention
Fairways and greens were hard as rocks, some spots were bare or dead in certain areas. We like to try different courses,do not know if I would book again.
The back nine is the most unusual layout in western PA
Note that if the back nine cart paths are wet they are the most treacherous anywhere! Proceed slowly as many are extremely steep & have curves. Preview where to hit the ball - many blind shots & no bail-out areas around greens! Nice greens & tees but fairways are below average. Old carts just barely run.
Spectacular elevated tees
The course was quite wet the day we played so it was difficult to get decent distance . We will definitely play Aubrey Dubbs again on a dry day . Front nine is straight forward and fairly easy however the back nine is very difficult with very narrow fairways and drastic elevation changes . Its best to take a little power off the shots and stay on the straight and narrow . All in all a very fun course and great value
Challenging or Unfair?
I have mixed feelings about this course. The front 9 is fine, wide-open and well kept. The back 9 is entirely different. So many holes that are just in awful spots, with odd greens. The greens all over the course haven't been watered in years, and also were carved into the sides of hills. I realize it's extremely cheap, but not worth the money at all.
tale of two nines
Front nine is nice and mostly wide open. Back nine is carved into a mountain. Every fairway is sloped down, so even a nice shot ends up in the woods.
Unique is friendly
Two VERY different sides. Front was wide open and playability for poor to average players was high. Back, Oh wait you mean we need 18 holes??? Squeezed in, playing down 10 yard wide fairways cut out of the side of a steep hillsides, cart path only on several holes.
Greens were interesting at best. I'm not sure whether to say they were terrible or challenging. No ball mark repair needed because no one every leaves one the way they are, literally. Unless you can put a good amount of spin on the ball you can't actually aim for, hit the green and hold it. If you don't hit 10 yards short and let it run on, no green for you.
This is where I don't know whether to say they were a joke or challenging. You could be on the green and be on barely any grade at all, put and have it come back and go off the green if you don't make the put. Some of the greens were essentially mounded middle out. I had a ball sitting 3 inches from the cup, it stopped there, then all of a sudden with no one near it, no wind, nothing while I was 3 feet away it starts rolling (fortunate for me it almost went in).
Tees were terribly marked and on number 7 there is a huge oak about 50 ft tall right in front of the tee. It's not figurative language here, I'm serious. Group after group crushed this tree. It's stuff like this that makes this a sub-par place. With improved greens and some refurb on the random back 9 it could be a place worth visiting regularly.
Aubreys Dubbs Dred Golf Course
This was a great course. They did some nice updates to the club house, & the staff was super friendly.
very well maintained fairways
The course is very well maintained and is in good shape. Only drawback was that there are not enough distance markers and one has to guess the distance to the green fairly often.
You better take advantage of the front nine because the back nine can eat your lunch.
OK so this isn't the greatest course in western PA but it's not the worst either. You can score on the front nine if you put your ball below the pin for an uphill putt. If you start the back nine with a mediocre front nine score you will likely have a long day because the back is much harder than the front.
You can drive the par 4 11th hole but, depending on the pin placement, you may have a test just to par the hole.
With some of the deals that are offered on GolfNow, this course is worth a shot.
This course has great features.
The course was as advertised; open & fun on the front and narrow & difficult on the back. Greens were in great shape & rolled true, fairways were well defined. Prepare for very sloped greens on the back.
Poor back 9
The entire back nine was the worst nine of my life
