Great Woodsy Course
excellent layout throughout the mountainous terrain Had an excellent game Havent been there in 10 years and the course was great
Good value for the money
For the money the greens were great and I enjoyed myself
A good course with some challenges
I have played this course multiple times in the past, and it is just as challenging every time. The front 9 is usually responsible for me losing at least 4-5 golf balls. The back 9 is more open and easier for guys like me who don't have the straightest drive to find their balls. All in all, for $10.00 you can't beat it. Well maintained and always an adventure. I will be back again and am looking forward to the challenges this course brings along with it!
A fun place to spend a morning
some of the tees are very tight (trees on both sides.) Its a fun place to play
On my list!!
A hidden treasure. My husband and I enjoyed playing here. Friendly staff, challenging play, couldn't ask for more. We are adding this to our regular play list.
Best deal in the Poconos!
Can't beat the price and was a surprisingly challenging course. The staff was great, the course was mostly maintained and the pace of play was excellent. The only negative was the tee boxes were not maintained very well, the grass was too high and unkept. But considering the price to play it is one of the best deals you can find in Poconos (Stroudsburg area).
Leave the driver at home
Very narrow coarse so if you're a terrible golfer like me bring extra balls. Greens were outstanding. Fairways were a little long but not bad. Course was nice and green. The course ranger was very nice and very helpful on how to play the course.
Golf Weekend
Pace of play was great. Layout and condition was less than desired.
Great Value
Got a hot deal $10 with cart... What a great deal... A nice course.. Well maintained.. Very narrow at times... Staff was friendly... Ladies beware.. No facilities on the course..
Tiny Gem in the Poconos
I played Cherry Valley 5 years ago and thought it was a nice course. After reading some of the recent reviews I was a little concerned about coming back. On the other hand I wanted to see what a ten buck round with cart looked like. I'm glad I did! The Staff greeted my arrival and were efficient in checking me in. Cherry Valley is a charming old time golf course. The length is better suited for hickory shafted mashies and spoons but for the "average" golfer there is plenty to like here. While most holes won't challenge your long game, your accuracy will be tested. The front 9 has a number of holes where you must negotiate the tee shot between overhanging trees. The back 9 only has a couple of such holes. I found the challenge fun though a guy in a cherry-picker with a pole saw would be a good idea. The greens are what really define this course. The are Small! Expect to be getting your chipping/pitching game a good workout. They also rolled very true but a tad on the slower side. I found the entire layout well taken care of. One previous reviewer commented on the tee boxes being overgrown. I didn't find that to be the case during my visit. If you're looking for some scenic golf away from it all I recommend this course.
Great Value With Beautiful Scenery
Excellent course for value; laid-back atmosphere for novice golfers. Challenging course in reference to narrow fairways. Be prepared with lots of extra golf balls. Had a great time!
Great Day of Golf
You better now how to hit them straight here or you will need a lot of balls in your bag. The course is short distance wise but has its challenges in the slopes and width of the fairways. Driver is rarely needed here but there are a few holes where you can use it. I will definitely play this course again. Food is only served on Friday Saturday and Sunday.
Short, buggy, VERY narrow
First time playing here. Got a $10 per round deal. This course is very short: only 5,500 from the white tees.
The front 9 plays extremely narrow with fairways almost impossible to land on. One hole has a 10 yd wide chute to hit through or you will end up in the forest. Back 9 is slightly easier with wider fairways and less chances to lose your balls.
Tee boxes have moderately tall grass, making it difficult to tee up your ball. Poison ivy everywhere along the edges of the forest, so if you lose your ball don't bother looking for it. Greens are small and roll unevenly, and are slow. Fairways are not cut very short and there's lots of hardpan, sand, weeds to hit off of, even in the fairway. The grass is not golf like grass found at other country clubs.
Contrary to what other people are saying the course attendants are nice and pleasant. No problems there.
I will say, though, that this course is perfect if you have a young child trying to learn how to play golf. I started him at the white stakes on par 5's, the red stakes on par 4's and the red tees on par 3's. It's a good length course to learn the game.
Overall this reminds me more of a municipal golf course instead of a country club. I would not pay the $26-$44 listed green fees for this at all, it's definitely not worth that price.
Good value.
The greens had been recently aerated. They still rolled pretty well. My only complain was that the tee boxes need to be mowed.
better than being home on the couch
It is what it is, nothing fancy but more than adequate for a good round of golf
Really a NICE Surprise !
I hadn't played this course since the 90's and BOY HAS IT IMPROVED !! It was nothing more then a HAY FIELD back then - the fairways were BARELY detectable and the greens were so SLOW that you needed a hammer to reach the hole because they were never cut either ! Now it's GORGEOUS - beautifully well manicured fairways AND greens - it's actually like a REAL golf course now . It's pretty darn challenging too - uphill, downhill AND side hill lies in the fairways and small, slick greens now to contend with. Not to mention the POWER LINES that criss cross the course also , lol !!! Definitely worth the trip !
Won't book here again
Booked a tee time for 8am, showed up at 730 no body was in the pro shop yet , no big deal it was still early. 8 am comes around still no one there , no one answering the phones. 8:30 comes around a guy comes driving by on a golf cart with a grumpy look sees me waiting by the pro shop door, I say excuse me to ask what's going on and he keeps on driving away. Waited another 20 minutes still no word. Weather was fine a little cold but sun had been out for hours no frost, no one answering the phones guy never came back , so I left. Will never book there again, went 5 min down the road to Shawnee inn and had a great time.
Fun Course
Fun layout for an average player. The greens were in exceptional condition. Beautiful views from many locations.
Started poorly from the beginning
From the moment we stepped into the clubhouse on arrival, we were greeted by a grumpy clubhouse attendant who treated us poorly because we showed up a few minutes late to our tee time after trying to drive safely to the course through some thick foggy weather. We were the only car in the parking lot so it wasn't like it was a busy day. It is no way to treat golfers. We would have definitely went elsewhere after beating treated like that if our greens fee wasn't paid in full on Golf Now. As we loaded up the cart, the attendant came out screaming at us to start on the back 9 because they were watering the front 9. The cart barely worked. As we reached the front 9, they still had the sprinkler system on so we had to avoid the water spraying everywhere. Just an overall terrible experience at Cherry Valley.
Some interesting holes, but not a must play
I played here for the first time this weekend and was actually disappointed. We paid full price and the course was more difficult and expected with high rough, thick lies and lots of woods. Lots of bugs too. The overall condition of the course wasn't terrible, but not great either. The back 9 is much more open.
Through golfnow, we got a $19 round so went to give it another shot and for that price, it was a great deal. Also knew what to expect and it was a very enjoyable round.
Both days, basically had the course all to ourselves which is awesome for pace of play. Not much in way of pro shop, just a smelly little club house with small bathroom, one cooler for drinks and a coffee pot.
2 was an interesting, blind, up hill dog leg right. 7 is a near 90 degree hole which leaves you with decision to lay up or try to hit it over the trees and cut the dog leg. 9 had a very isolated tee box hitting on to an open fairway. Along with a couple short par 3s, I would definitely say those were memorable holes.
I wouldn't recommend for the full price, but would entertain the idea of going back at a discount.
I wonder how much business this course has lost because of this workers attitude???? I have read this type of review many times for this course. It's too bad because other workers are very nice. I played two years ago and have not been back there since that rude behavior, in my option is not to be tolerated.
