Springfield Country Club is situated just outside of Philadelphia, only 10 minutes from the airport. The golf course sprawls across gently rolling hills accented with stands of mature trees. The changes in elevation are seemingly subtle but they are trickier than they appear. Although the course is playable enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels, it doesn't start you off easily. The opening hole is a tough par 4 that has a creek meandering across it as well as a severely sloped green, followed by another par 4, an uphill hole with an elevated and bunkered green. There are a few strategically placed bunkers throughout and water makes an appearance on a few other holes. The towering trees that frame many of the holes also present challenges.

Harassment by staff

Don’t bother coming to this course. The moment I stepped on the putting green the starter told me to get off if you don’t have a tee time. I was deciding if to play but because he came at me and then he told another starter to tell me to leave I turned around and left. They claim that on this public course that you have to leave if you don’t have a tee time. I have played all over the US and Europe and have never run across this. Once again Delco people prove to be the worst.

Great Experience

I'm not sure where the past negative reviews come into play. However, my group and I had a great experience. We had an 8am tee time and the course was in really good shape. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in awesome shape compared to some other courses we've played throughout the summer. The staff was friendly and the off course amenities are amazing. We would play this course in the condition it was over and over again for $72.

Staff ruins the course

The staff are rude. Marshall’s have no business speaking to people the way they do. Almost every time I’ve been too. Conditions are bad, with dead spots of grass and hard dirt where your ball gets stuck. This is a 50$ course not 72$. Tee time rules make no sense with how they book solos and the staff will not hesitate to change your tee time to group you with other people.

Rude starter

Very rude starter. Wouldn’t let group wait 5 minutes for last member of group to show up to tee off together even though there was no other group waiting to tee off. Next reserved tee time was more than an hour later. Starter was also rude to one of the group who is new to golf. Course was fine for time of year, but rude starter was disappointing. Plenty of other options with professional staff in the area.

Not worth the money

7 am tee time, first out on the course. Good we need to play slow so we don’t get stuck behind senior woman’s tournament starting in a hour on back nine. We played very slow for a few holes but then had a group come up on our tail. We began playing normal pace but caught up to tournament by he tenth hole. Terrible organization, unsympathetic course workers. Oh and they had the sprinklers on the greens well into 30 minutes of us playing. Cost 58 bucks and we only played 11 holes due to the tournament. They lost my business, I will not be back.

Overall bad experience

I’ll start off by saying the course was in great shape and it isn’t the easiest course because most of your shots are blind due to the layout of the course and not being to see the greens unless your chipping onto the green…, but that’s really the only good thing I could say about my experience here. My buddy and I played and we were given a cart that was falling apart and Hardly had breaks. On hole 5, it’s a par 3 that goes down and up a fairly steep hill, on the way up to hill, the cart completely died half way up the steep hill and we began rolling down the hill with almost no breaks. I called the clubhouse to have someone bring us a new cart. The ranger showed up and seemed annoyed at us, annoyingly told us to get our clubs off the cart. At that point, we almost just asked for our money back but we continued to play. Once we got in the new cart, we noticed 2 groups of 4 who were kids, no older then 13-14 were driving carts around the course bouncing from hole to hole really messing with the pace of play and hitting up on our group and other groups. They were also driving across fairways to skip holes and driving the carts on the greens. This was probably the worst golfing experience I ever had in the 20 years I’ve been playing and I’ll never go back to play Springfield.

I grew up in Springfield and your experience sounds very delco. Sorry about that. I play there tomorrow. I hope it’s a fun round. I walk so at least I won’t be stuck in a dead cart.

Ignore reviews from before 2018

The Bermuda grass fairways are fully matured and honestly beautiful to play on, even through the off season they stay nice like hitting off of carpet. It is true that it took longer than they had hoped for the bermuda grass to take hold and had several years where you couldnt pay me to play there, but the last 2 years the conditions have been amazing. The course has some great holes and some difficult holes, but no one can say that the course itself isn't in excellent shape year round now. If the last time you played was before 2018 I recommend you come check all the course again. Also the hotel and Tavolas are great places to hang after and entertain a client or stay if your from out of town. If you are looking for a quick snack that will fill you up, try the cheese steak rolls , they are delicious.

Poor Course Design - Harrasing Disrespectful Starters

I have played this course for Decades. First my biggest complaint is the

course design, why would any course designer make the first hole the

number one handicaped hole. Talk about lack of thought when building

this track. The reason is they have no practice area , no range , no

chipping area. So everyone arrives at the first hole with no warm up and

its the hardest hole! This leads to disaster out of the first tee box for

novice and intermediate players. To add insult to injury the last hole is

the #2 handicap hole is the 18th so you get a good kick off the golf course

with a boggie gaurentee unless your single digit handicap player. I cant

even begin complaining about the starters/staff who think thay are

working at Augusta National , rude , self serving , unattentive is what

comes to mind. Some tee boxes are caved in and you cant get a level

footing it hasnt been corrected. Rounds tend to be the longest you will

play simply do to the boogie mindset forcing you to play SMART. Do to

the fact that you most likely leave the first green with a double boogie or

single at best for most, you now have a gimped mindset of playing safe so

you dont blow up your score in the first 3 holes prior to warming up. In

closing I have one comment to bid my permanant farwell to Springfield

and any other golf course that has the first hole built as the number one

handicap and the last hole the 2nd hadest handicap all with no warmup
The golf work horse Ben Hogan one said you have to hit at least three

golf balls to wake up your golf mind. This golf course never allows your

golf mind to wake up it beats you down on the first tee. Remember this

write up as your on the first realizing your cold as ice and stiff as a

board. Spend your money at ourse that appreiates the customer and

understands what kind of expierence they are selling. Most golfers

dont know any better now you do. Happy Golfing!

Bad Course Design - Bad Attitudes

I have played this course for 3 Decades hundreds of rounds. First my biggest complaint is the course design, why would any designer make the first hole the number one handicaped hole. Talk about lack of thought when building this trak, they have no practice area , no range , no chipping area. So everyone arrives at the first hole with no warm up and its the hardest hole, this leads to disaster out of the box for novie and intermediate players as you watch the players ahead of you on the tee box you quickly will realize the type of day ahead of you and trust me only skilled players will par the first hole By that i mean single digit handicap players. To add insult to injury the last hole is the #2 handicap hole is the 18th so you get a good kick of the golf course with a boggie gaurentee unless your single digit handicap player. I cant even begin complainging about the starters who think thay are working at Augusta National , rude , self serving , unattentive is what comes to mind. Some tee boxes are caved in and you cant get a level footing it hasnt been corrected for a decade or more. Rounds tend to be the longest you will play simply do to the mindset from the first tee box kicking your butt, and forcing you to play SMART. One that happens to a golfer of any caliber your game is now gimped and your round wil lbe also. In losing I have one comminet to bid my permanant farwell to Springfield and any other golf course that has the first hole built as the number one handicap and the last hole the 2nd hadest handiap all with no warmup

Customer Service

The attitude of the rangers and starters are so rude and pompous it really ruins a decent course that is close to home. The layout is fair for the average golfer, and course is usually in decent shape. After the round Tavola is a great place to stop for a bite, but I will never get passed the starters, especially one in particular. I see more friendly workers at the DMV. After multiple tries, this one is going to be a no for me until we get some starters who are more, lets say current.

Mini Outing

13 of us got together to play and hangout. Course was in good shape. It was not crowded but the ranger harassed our last 4some unnecessarily . Probably wouldn't go back since they couldn't manage a group of our size.

Same Old Same Old - A Disasta

As Mr. Trump would say, "this place is a disasta. You can believe me." This is the third year in a row I've played this course, one time each year, and it just keeps getting worse. There is virtually no grass on the fairways. Yet, we are asked to ride the cart paths on exactly half of the 18 holes. Why? What is it that they are trying to protect by not letting us ride on the fairways? This adds almost another hour to a very miserable experience. This is the worse course that I've played in each of the last three years. And it is also the slowest pace of play. Springfield Township should close this course down entirely for two years to allow the grass to grow back to where it should be. Let the township's taxpayers subsidize the shortfall in income. But don't keep this course open in the condition that its in - its too embarrassing for the township.

Strike 3...you're out

We knew what we were getting in to with the failed bermuda fairways but didnt want to go the whole year without playing Springfield. How bad could it be for $32. Pretty bad. The day was much worse than expected.

Strike one - they didn't tell us it was Cart path only. We wold not have played.

Strike two - aside from the horrible fairways, the greens were extremely slow. Some tee boxes were bare and the others had what appeared to be zoisa sod. These were uneven and lumpy. Could not get firm footing. Like super plush shag carpeting.

Strike three - at least we had cold beer waiting for us at the deck bar right? Not to be. Beers were $4.50 and we had to share them with swarming bees.

Dear Springfield, please fix.

Frustrating

Lets start with the teeboxes. Uneven and patchy, a bunch of sand over it to top it off. Then you get to the fairway. And let me tell you the fairway isnt fair. Hitting off of bare dirt at times. Im not sure which idiot thougt it would be a good idea to rip up perfectly fine fairways so the fairways can look like **** for the next few years. but i can kind of assume who ever it was isnt very smart. this course has so much potential but forget about with the whole fairway situation. course isnt in good shape. except for the greens. they were great
