Blue/Red at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort
About
With a unique location on an island in the Delaware River, Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort boasts 27 scenic holes of championship golf. The island dates back to long ago when Pennsylvania was still covered by glacial ice fields. The Wisconsin Glacier, one of the last glaciers, formed the island when it melted. Today, the gently rolling landscape is abundant with trees and wildlife, providing a secluded atmosphere that is perfect for golf. The three nines are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Blue/Red Course crisscrosses the landscape, offering beautiful views of the surrounding Poconos Mountains along the way. The layout is mostly flat but there are some strategically placed bunkers to keep it interesting. In addition to the three courses, there is also a nine-hole, par-3 course.

Even better than advertised.......
Even hetter than advertised, this tree-lined traditional layout rewards the golfer who can keep the ball toward the optimum side of the fairway. The greens were in great condition and ran true.
Very playable course..not too hard and not too easy
Although our group likes to travel and play many different courses, we always want to play Shawnee at least 3 or 4 times in a season. It suits all of our handicaps ranging from 12 to 20. Course and greens were in very good condition. Greens were perfect speed. Course is very scenic and adjacent to the Delaware River. Look for the eagle around Blue no. 3.
Shawnee
This classic layout was in great shape, outstanding pace of play for a Saturday. Greens in excellent condition. Really enjoyed and plan to play here often.
Very nice course
course was in very good shape. the fairways and greens in good shape. stay out of the rough though.
Beautiful course
The scenery here is absolutely beautiful and the course is very well maintained. I went on a very busy day with my wife but thanks to good starters everything flowed perfect. There are good challenges such as sand traps, wetland areas, and dog legs but the fairways are wide enough that it is not to intimidating for a beginner to play. I cannot wait to play this course again as it has instantly become my favorite. Along with the scenery there was also some nice wildlife such as bald eagles, hawks, turkey and deer.
Nice
Great course. Play it every year. Only problem was , a foursome that came out if nowhere, jumped ahead of me on the 5th red tee, I was playing by myself and did not appreciate that. They said they were part of a tournament. I don't know if they were told to start at the fifth or what, but it messed my game up for awhile, because I was moving fast and they had no business doing that.
Always enjoyable.
Shawnee is A.W. Tillinghast at his best. One of Tillinghast's first designs in the U.S. he recreated several of these holes when he designed Winged Foot, Baltusrol, Quaker Ridge, Ridgewood, Somerset Hills and Fenway. If you don't know a member at one of the above courses, this is the next best thing. This is a fun golf course with reachable par fives and extremely challenging par fours and threes. Positioning your ball in the fairway is very important to have the proper angle into a green. You can be in the fairway and be blocked out by trees. The greens at Shawnee are undulating but never unfair due to reasonable green speeds.
great layout
Many challenging holes. Course was in great shape.
AverageTrack
As a former PGA Assistant professional and a 1 handicap I suppose I'm somewhat spoiled when talking about golf courses!!! The golf course was in decent shape but greens were really slow perhaps due to ask the recent rain. The course design was okay... the pace of play was awfull, and I dint see one single player assistant during the 5 1/2 hours on the course. Personally I won't be back!
Classic old course built when punishment was not the goal.
On most modern courses, the designer seems to want to punish the golfer. Artificial mounds in fairways, artificial ridgelines on the greens. Not so on Shawnee. While there are 100+ year old massive trees, you can find most of your golf balls. Punching out? Sure. There should be some punishment for errant shots. And unlike many 100+ year old courses, plenty of yardage from the Men's tee box, with a champion tee beyond that. Course conditions were excellent. Men's tees about 6300. One giant bald eagle's nest with Mom seen. Jackie Gleason pics and other early to mid 1900's celebs posted in the clubhouse. Treat yourself to a walk back in time.
Shawnee Inn Late Spring
Wonderful grounds and clubhouse. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beautiful day for a quiet round.
Nice Course
We paid a great rate through Golfnow - $30 with cart. It was a great day, very good conditions. The only major complaint is that this course allows 5-6 players on the same hole. I've never seen that before (there were 4 carts). they were in front of us and held up play. We complained, however rangers said they allow 5-6 people to play on a hole.
Otherwise beautiful location.
This course is in Great shape
The course was in excellent condition. The pace of play was decent for a Saturday. The staff there is always very friendly. I found the greens to be in terrific shape and the fairways are trimmed well. I will definitely be back to play again.
Always a pleasure
When you play Shawnee you are immersed in history. You can almost feel the presence of the old masters. It is just classic. Enjoy the club house, take in the numerous photos displayed throughout, then go out and a play.
Annual Spring Visit
The Shawnee Inn is getting better & better annually. The course is showing signs of a resurgence & every year gets more & more care & attention to improvements of the greens, fairways, & facility. Great job by the Management & Staff. Keep it up, I'll be back
Best track in the Poconos!! No charge for the Bald Eagle sightings either!!
Shawnee is my favorite course in the Pocono area. I wish I lived closer. The course is always in great condition and the views are amazing. To see a Bald Eagle and a nest on the course is jaw dropping.
. Fall colors in the forefront on this well kept course.
Leaves are in full fall change mode and staff did great job clearing them from the playing areas. Reasonably chalenging for a resort course. Par 3's in particular will keep you on your toes. Was in really nice shape this year.
Warm Day In Oct.
3 nine holes. Played Blue to Red. Layout is strange as the starting and ending holes are not near the clubhouse. Course knowledge is an aid. There is a halfway-house out on the course. Only drawback for the day was lots of gnats in your face due to the warm day and right on the river. Very scenic and a pleasant day for a round of so-so golf.
Great and beautiful place to play
I come back to Shawnee every September since I own a timeshare there. It is a beautiful course this time of year and a great value for the deals they run off-season. Playing golf on the island in the middle of the Delaware River with the mountain range always in view is awesome!
