Hidden gem
Norvelt is a mountain course that can only be described as a hidden gem in western Pennsylvania. Each nine travels through mountains and hills and offers great views of the surrounded Laurel Highlands mountains.
The course itself was in great condition, especially for spring time. Tees and fairways were green and well taken care of, and sand was soft and aesthetic. The best part of the course, however, were the greens. Small and lush, the greens here at Norvelt were some of the fastest I've ever played, and every putt read and played true.
Players beware of the deceitful short scorecard, as several shorter holes required very strategic play, including limited fairway, dodging bunkers, or carrying water. A few holes on the front nine especially require thought and precision.
Overall, this was one of the best public courses I've played in the area, and I highly recommend it to anyone. Price is low, conditions were great, and staff was friendly.
