Perfect day unique setting
Second time playing. We had a great time. The views are stunning. I didn’t realize there were such beautiful views of the river anywhere in the area. Holes were challenging. I’ll be back thats for sure l.
Could not see flags from tees.
For too many holes the flag could not be seen from the tee box
The hole artwork at the tee boxes for hole layout was not accurate.
nice layout with some very difficult holes
some very difficult holes and some very easy holes which allow for a few birdies
Needs some work - will give it a few more weeks
Greens need some work and we had a moderate winter (neither heavy nor light). I get that it is very early and all - just needs some more TLC for the spring and early part of the main season. The sand traps are atrocious as they need to take out all of the pebbles and put actual sand that is softer and not so silty in them.
If you are not going to take care of the traps, then make them grass bunkers more like Deer Valley has done and consider making the greens smaller and then take better care of them. Fairways and tees were fair.
The staff is great! The views are great! Tournaments here are the best!!!!
I would like to see the green redone on #14. It is like a trampoline. I too often hit just short of the green from about 180-190 out and it still runs all the way through the green and I hit the front of the green today and it still went all the way through the green and it is a long one. It ended up at 204 and that club should not do that.
Sunset - A Hidden Gem
Since the winter 2016 to 2017 renovation at Sunset in order to alleviate safety concerns for the approach way at Harrisburg International Airport, the front 9 plays as a links-style course and the back 9 as a traditional Parkland- style course. The variety is refreshing. And the SGC team does a fine job maintaining good course conditions across the hilly, rolling terrain. The par 4 hole no. 10 is among the most scenic in the region - a downhill tee shot from the highest point on the golf course to a green offset to the right. The panoramic view of the Londonderry Township farmland and Susquehanna River from the tee is stunning. Holes no. 2 and no. 13 are long par 4s that merit the respective no. 1 and no. 2 handicap holes. The four par 3s are not cookie cutter holes. Each is distinctively different with no. 11 playing over a pond to a two-tiered green. Water comes into play at three holes. It was cold and breezy today. The greens were frozen hard making them unreceptive. The snack bar was closed. None of this was surprising given the season. Our foursome was glad to be outside playing golf on January 15! I understand the new renovations featuring tall fescue and wildflowers will be in full bloom this season in 2021. We look forward to playing Sunset to enjoy the redesign of holes no. 1 to 9 then as well as the contrasting layout on holes no. 10 to 18. The Brownstone Cafe in nearby Middletown is a great option for a post round meal.
Fantastic
The course is challenging and was in great shape for January. I play this course quite often. Pace of play was quick today but there wasn't alot of people there. Play under normal conditions is average. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I always have a great time there.
Cool Day
Great views, well maintained, quiet and quick, very attentive staff on a cool day in November!
