Drainage issues, but otherwise fine.
Royal Oaks sits on some low ground, so many spots do not drain well. After heavy rains the day before, there were a number of unplayable spots and the course was very soft. Allowing for that, the course was in very good shape. I suspect, though, that some fairway spots (no greens had issues) may also burn out.
A little soggy
Used to play this course a few times a year in the 90s then moved away. Played it again today for the first time. Nice layout but very soggy fairways and extremely soft greens. It’s like putting on Velcro. Very slow. Not a fan of holes where you need to lay up due to drainage ditches, especially on a par 5. A few holes on the back side were like this.
Muddy Oaks
It’s a beautiful layout and a well run course. But somebody does not understand the he concept of Summer turf conditions. Right across the street you have Lebanon CC with firm green , tight firm fairways. Royals Oaks is a bloody muddy mess. It’s over watered to the point that the places that have grass , the grass is a deep dark green with muddy soil . And the places that are without grass or have little grass are soft mud. The greens are over watered and very slow. It’s a beautiful layout , well run with friendly people and the place with crowded with people that don’t mind plunking down $60 to play mid golf in the middle of Summer. I won’t be back.
First time but definitely will not be the last time
This course was wonderful. The people were friendly. No issues with rushing. We had a wonderful time on a Saturday.
Not worth $60on a Saturday morning
The course is not worth $60 - the back 9 was really wet and a lot of ground under repair.
Plus, they wanted to charge my daughter full price to ride with me and hit a few putts. So, I am not coming back to this dump.
Great conditions
Live in Florida but up north for a few months. First time playing here this year. Fairways in excellent condition. There were a few soggy spots but considering all the heavy rains the past two weeks, can’t complain.
Greens putted true, good speed. Noticed they changed many bunkers to grass. Liked this.
Wife and I played the first twelve holes quickly before we caught up to a foursome. Slowed somewhat then, but that is to be expected. There were groups in front of them.
Young lady in pro shop was very friendly.
Local gem
Tranquil setting in scenic central Pennsylvania farm land with a few nice residences on in the midst of the front nine. The designer blended an interesting mix of log legs, elevation changes, a bit of natural water, modest variation to grees, along with resort-like wide landing areas to make things interesting for players of all skill levels. On this round in the latter third of June, the entire course was in top-condion.
Great Value
This course was a great value. The layout was fair with a few holes on the back nine that required some club management off the tee. I would definitely play this course often if it was closer to me. Other than a few spots on some greens, the tees and fairway were in great condition.
The bunkers are unplayable for me because of the amount of rocks in them.I have 2 big gouges in my sand wedge from them and won't dare hit out of them again. It's ridiculous that a golf course as nice as this has such terrible bunkers and it's been that way for years.
