Well maintained, but needs directions
Course is well maintained and fairly difficult. Rough is particularly thick making it difficult to find balls. Round was not particularly enjoyable due to confusion getting between holes. Cart paths are non-existent in many places and were primarily made from rocks. Needs better directions between holes, especially to 18. Also, practice green was in very poor shape. Would also do better with yardage markers... GolfNow deal was great, but most likely would not play again.
Challenging course
I haven't played this course in about 12 years and its went somewhat south since then. They fairways back then were like walking on oakmonts fairways and today they are just so so. Just seems like the greens and fairways need some attention. Other than that the course is challenging due to very uneven fairways and I could see the greens becoming faster as the season progresses. I do like playing this course but requires particular ball placement if you want to score well. You can get into trouble fast here. Some bunkers were maintained and others needed worked on. I'm sure ill play this course a few times this summer
Nice course with challenging layout
The surface was in excellent condition, fairways are a bit tight but the large, well maintained greens made for nice approach shots. Cart paths could use more signs because they feel like a maze at times, overall, nice course well worth the money spent
Not worth the time
Landing areas were wide but every fairway sloped hard to the right making them very difficult to hold and with trees and out of bounds so close on many holes bring extra balls. Greens were hard and fast in excellent condition. Fairways had alot of humps and bumps not easy to find a decent lie. Bunkers were filled with childrens play box sand it didn't have enough wieght to propel the ball out.
Enjoyable
Enjoyable course. Easy holes mixed in with hard holes, every hole is unique and memorable. Hilly, but doesn't play that way, it would be a challenge to walk.. Greens are always in nice shape. The course doesn't get a lot of play because of rural location which makes for fast rounds. My partner aced #9 par 3., 173yds. That was exciting.
It is a great course. We drove 60 miles to play it
Its a great layout. The roughs were kind of long but they were cutting it while we were there.
Difficult course. Soaked fairways so absolutly no roll on shots.
Very challenging course. Played extra difficult because of soggy fairways.
Probably an elite course 50 years ago. To many side hill lies.
I enjoy playing this course once a year. Very tough course for the amateur golfer. This course is from out of the past. Excellent greens. Bunkers not taken care of. I can see how it got the name "Oakmont of the North"!
This is an exceptional course!
Great course layout. In very nice condition though we have had a harsh summer. Would recommend to anyone who has game and enjoys a fair challenge.
the old gal ain't what she used to be
Played this course many times in the past. It used to have greens that compared with even the best private courses in PA and OH. It was as challenging as any course around and deserved its rep as th "Oakmont of the North". Not anymore. They have changed many of the holes to make them easier and the greens are now just public course greens.Still not a bad deal at big online fee discounts but not at full price.
Good course
Needs better on course directions(signs), otherwise nice track, excellent greens and fairways.
