Gone Downhill Quickly
This course was in the worst shape I've seen a golf course in . The greens were absolutely terrible. It wasn't even worth getting my putter out of the bag.
After playing through 9 holes and realizing we'd have to play the same course all over again, we decided to leave.
In addition, there was no one manning the pro shop and no way to buy drinks to take along as we played. Overall, this was the worst experience I've ever had golfing.
Felt Almost vandelized myself!
Looking for a Tee Time that fit our schedule - my father-in-law and I found "Green Hills" Listed for a 1 PM time/ and "HOT DEAL" - So for the both of us - $22; pre-pay - We drove about 25 minutes to get to the course and was told that several weeks ago the greens had been vandalized and they are very bumpy; and they were tearing all the greens up the next day! Well how bad could it be..We drove; wanted to play golf; beautiful day. It was just BAD... Green Hills should have just pulled their information from GolfNow when they knew the course was BAD!
Would be a great little course with a lot of TLC..
it's $5
Played here a couple times, it's not Augusta National, we payed a GolfNow rate of $5 including cart for crying out loud. Decent layout and fun to play. conditions could be better, but, it was $5. Some greens had some vandalism and others are just dry and bare, but it was $5. Fairways and rough were about the same height but plenty of grass, too much in some spots. Bunkers haven't seen sand in years and some of the areas between bunkers and greens will eat up balls but, its $5. Its inexpensive, have some fun, drink some beer and hit it again!
A shame
Played and enjoyed this course for years. Nice layout and good par 3's, however; conditions make it almost unplayable. Know they had greens damaged earlier in the year but now you cannot putt on them. It is a shame because I enjoy the course hopefully they will make the necessary repairs, but until then I will go elsewhere. .
Terrible conditions
Unplayable greens, carts in bad shape. Bunkers are solid as concrete.
Not So Nice
It was unfortunate that someone vandalized their greens, I feel bad for the owners; but the course was rough all around, not just the greens. Broken cart paths, uncut grass, dry fairways, all disappointing.
A darn shame because the course really is great
This is the best course in Berks County...if only they'd take care of it. Designed in the 1930s by the first president of the PGA, Robert White, he draped 9 wonderful holes across the hillside, with vicious undulations in the greens, deep bunkering and wide but very rolling fairways, the course from the back tees, the 'Monsters" is extremely challenging with a course rating of 74.0 and a par of 70.
However, the course conditions are very hit and miss. In April they could have played a US Open at this place, rock hard conditions everywhere, nice fairways and greens, high rough. It was wonderful. But now? Four of the greens are dead and they aren't really taking care of the other five either.
But that's the way it is here, it's nice for a month or two, and then they just pack it in In the fall the course becomes unplayable because they don't pick up leaves. This course could be a gold mine, because every hole is an interesting and fun challenge, but instead its as if they want people to not come back.
Pick another course
Worse conditions I've ever played. Holiday weekend and the greens hadn't been mowed since Monday. Winter rates at best, yet they charge full price. Members complained and management told them they could play else where. What a joke, I would have been better served putting a flag in my back yard.
I would never go back
The course has a great layout but it's not maintained. The greens are In a horrible shape that they can be called browns. Only 2 of the 9 were in a acceptable condition. The staff never showed up though I had a reservation so I could not get a cart. I just played 8 and left and the staff had still not showed up when I left around 830 am.
Great little course
I play here all the time. Great value for the money. Greens are in rough shape on some holes this year.
Not what I expected
First off, there was a tournament going on so they didn't want to let us on at first. But after driving an hour I would not be turned away. Course conditions were horrible. Golfers were friendly and it's a pretty laid back attitude. If they cleaned up the course and fixed the greens it would be an ideal place to play. Good luck n god bless
Below Average
The course wasn't well kept, and the carts were a little shabby. It was cheap, so I didn't expect much. Very challenging course however.
Not worth the money
Nice people, course is horrible. Drove an hour to this course with groupon deal. Joke of a driving range, lean the balls once in a while. Voucher for food, got about half the value. Greens are over cut, paths are 100 years old, course worth about $10 to play. People are super nice but felt like being in the mountains on and off the course. Won't be back. Do not recommend.
Great practice course
The tee boxes weren't in the best of shape, but it was a fun course to practice on. The fairways are narrow, but it didn't take long to find any ball that went left or right.
A nice challenge for practicing varies lies
Green Hills is a no frills course that is good practice for all golfers. Many of the green are elevated and the fairways have a lot of slope and undulations
Not worth $15 at all. 9 hole course weaving through what looks like a glorified municipal park.
Terrible. 9 holes with a straight tee to green. Terrible conditions. I beat the pro to the course at 7:30 sat morning
Challenging, fun course, good bang for buck.
Played from back tees, plenty long. Course was in poor shape, but it was before the seasoned opened. Friendly staff, fun to play, good value for what you pay for.
Course is good for practice rounds
Hilly course your ball can roll another 30 yds in any direction after it lands
Cost Effective Course and Friendly Staff
If you need to get in a quick 9 holes, this course is for you! I have played 9 holes here in a little over 1 hour. The staff is very friendly and you can't beat the price.
I play here about 10 times a year and use it as a practice course.
As the name states, the course is extremely hilly but still walkable. The fairways are really just normal grassy areas. For the most part, the greens are actually well maintained.
There is a driving range to help you get ready for your round.
Good course for beginners. Very low pressure environment. I always recommend beginners to come here first before you start throwing down big money at more expensive courses.
