Playing behind an 8-some!!!!

I like the course and the scenery is very nice. Here is my reason for a 1 star review. Did you ever play golf and an 8-some jammed up the course. I have been playing golf for 40 years. I have never seen or witnessed anything like the debacle I encountered at this course on June 27th, 2020. We came to hole #12 and there were six groups trying to play on # 12 and # 13. We were told on tee at number #12 that there was an 8-some playing jamming up play. One group was on the green on #13 one in fairway waiting one on the tee at group on # 12 on the green and us waiting to tee off. As we hit our shots the group behind us asked what the hold up was! We called the clubhouse and they said that they received three calls about it. He said he would send out a ranger. As we waited and waited the ranger showed up drove around and looked at all the groups on the two holes. He told us that the 8-some was not holding us up (they were not the problem) What a load of crap! The 8-some was on #14 teeing off and he did nothing to break up the group. In fact, he never said a word to them as he drove up to the clubhouse instead. Is this how you would want to be treated as a patron? A 5-some ok when the course is not crowded, but an 8-some. If I was the owner, person in charge, ranger, whatever, this would never occur! Think twice about playing here. I will never set foot on that course again. I have played there every year since 2015 and played on a Friday and Sunday as it was a place to play before going to Poconos. To the employees of Mountain Valley you should be fired for allowing a debacle like that occur on your watch.

Jekyl and Hyde, good and bad.

This will be one of the more odd reviews I’ve written. I enjoy. Mountain courses , drove 90 minutes to try the course, and I want to encourage use of courses away from congested areas but...

This course has two 18 holes and they’ve got all the amenities you could need. Wedding venue, driving range, decent club house, two buildings to feed any masses and groups you can bring. The buildings were in top shape. Staff helpful and professional. They’ve been coached for sure. But this is a golf review, and the course didn’t match the rest of their services.

The layout wasn’t bad. What you’d expect but not innovative. The course plays longer than the measurements. But these were the worst tee boxes I’ve played in years. Most were totally dead, yet they aerated them. Why? Dead grass doesn’t need help, it’s dead. The few boxes that were good needed mowed and grass was between my teed ball and driver. As you can see, just horrible.

The fairways were a little better but they had a lot of patches and weeds and it wasn’t appealing from the tees. I often had dead grass under my ball, so I gave up and moved my balls to better lies.

Sand traps were okay. Nuff said.

Greens were surprisingly in good shape. Good grass, deep green colors, consistent but a bit slow. While the practice green was at least two, maybe three times faster than the greens out on the course. So greens were the one good point.

I’m sure the locals love it, there’s not much to pick from out there and they’ve got food and amenities to enjoy, but this is about golf. Not food or wedding views. I just can’t recommend it. They need to spend a LOT of money on watering and weed killers.

What a value!

They have 2 challenging golf courses. The quality does not match the low price! There are great views and beautiful nature everywhere you look. No houses on the course and you'll hardly ever see the other holes while you are playing. It really feels like a secluded, destination golf experience. Not what you'd expect in NE PA!

Great layout and conditions

A great course with beautiful views and a peaceful setting. Not a long course but accuracy is premium here. Sacrifice the distance to keep the ball in the short grass. The fairways were prefect and the ball sat up nicely. The greens were better than average speed and rolled very true. The course itself has a fair amount of elevation change but there are no tricked up holes or blind tee shots. Well worth the price.
