Underrated
This course is underrated yes the rough is rough and sand needs work but for $10 a player with a cart on 18 holes. Can't b beat. The staff was great! The fairways have many slopes humps and bumps making it a more challenging play. The back 9 was a great play from long 550yard par 5 to 130 par 3. We used about every club. Greens are small and large and very fast to snail slow. We will b going back was a great time and keeps u making good shots because it really counts on this course. With some holes u might want to move up a tee box if can't get a150+ drive. It's worth every penny if can pick up 9 for under 30 if you ask our group. Good luck !
Worst Golf Course- Shut it down
I am never one to write a review but I can honestly say that this was not worth the 14.00 round. I hit 9 fairways and in the process lost 11 balls. There are no signs and no direction.
The players in front of me had both of their carts stop working.
This place really needs to be shut down, or sold.
It could be a nice course.
Cheers.
Not worth it
I played Cherry Wood for only $12 and even then, it wasn't worth it. There are no signs at each hole and no info within the score card except a map. If you're a visual golfer and just want to shoot by how it looks, go for it. But the distances are tough to judge. Also, the grass cuts are terrible. The fairways were 'okay' but relatively narrow and short, and the rough was almost unplayable. I never found multiple balls that were literally only 2-3 feet off the fairway, which to me should not be grass that long.
The greens are in the best condition in years
Cherry Wood has a lot of unappealing factors. To start the tee boxes are hard and most don't have lush grass. Some fairways have slopes in them against the natural contour making unpredictable bounces and rollouts on tee shots. And the main problem is the lack of cart paths and regulation for where you can drive carts. You pretty much go on a cart path past your green to the next tee box. And then drive to your ball the whole way up to the green. This leaves beaten down grass up and around the approaches and backs of greens. Ive been saying for years if they roped off cart paths for a year it would show so much improvement.
With that being said i really enjoy the layout of the course. It doesn't have the adjacent and parallel holes that many have as it sits on a good amount of land. Theres a good mix of water and bunkers and this year the greens are by far the best I've ever seen them. I enjoy the course its a great value but would flourish with some money put into it.
couldn't tell.
The course was so wet!!!! Almost unplayable they should've paid me to play it.
Fair deal for the money
this course could use some upgrades. the clubhouse is a mobile home and has limited snacks and soft drinks. the course itself is on the rough side. overall it is a nice inexpensive deal for a beginner like myself.
Needs HELP
We're do I start ! We played for $11 .00 thur Golfnow , So I can't complain to much !!!! But I would not pay more than $ 20.00 to golf here !
Tee Boxs ??? Cart paths need work , only about 4 fairways ! We felt like we were golfing in a cut field , back 9 a old strip field !
Ok for locals , Not worth the time !!!
Fast round
We played 18 under 3 1/2 hours. I played with an 84 year old. He really enjoys this course. He likes the layout of the course and the greens. We'll be playing here more often.
Course review
Glad we only payed 10$. Should be a housing project
course is in great shape
I always enjoy Cherrywood didn't play so well overall nice place nice price
Avoid This Course
We had lunch at the bar before we played and it was all downhill after that.
Every Tee Box was hard and bare. The Fairways were hard and dry. The Greens were tiny and in need of watering. It looks like this course has not had a good maintenance program for a decade or longer. We paid $33.00 per person to play. That was more than double what the price should have been. The course layout is short with several puzzling/narrow/illogical layouts.
You don't need your driver here.
We played this course because it was close to our last sales call. I would not recommend this course to anyone. Find another place to play.
Simon says
Not a bad starter course for those who want to try golf for the first time. Some challenging holes on the front nine. More challenging and difficult holes on the back nine. Greens are very challenging and I like how they undulate. Overall I would return anytime.
The Hot rate was made for this course
If you are looking for perfect cart paths and greens than this is course isnt for you. However, there are some beautiful holes on this course. The back nine is one of the best nine holes I have played in western PA.....The cart paths are a diasater but to be fair the course is so spread it would be very expensive and time consuming to fix the paths. Sometimes you feel like you are on safari going from hole to hole. The staff is very and overall I had a good time playing this course. It could easily be one of the best public courses in the area if it was taken care of a little more. I would say this course is not worth $36 but if you can play for $18-22 then do it.
Nice course, rough around the edges
We found the course to be well kept. The greens were OK....The Course 's path from hole to hole isn't laided out too well, but it is manageable. It's a relatively short course, but it plays tough. We found the staff to be quite friendly and helpful. Not a bad place, also not crowded.
Stay away from this course!
This course is so run down I don't think words can describe how bad of shape it is in! The greens are like fairways at most courses, the fairways are like rough's and the roughs are like a forest. The whole place is just a giant mess and needs someone to come in and shut it down. The lady that waited on us was so friendly and nice. My wife and I felt so bad for her that she has to work at a place like this. We only saw one guy working at the course and he was trying to cut the grass but was doing a pour job at best of cutting the grass. My advice is just to avoid this place at all cost!
Good for a beginner
Overall I enjoyed playing here, however I am a beginner so I am easily satisfied.
I will note that the tee boxes were very hard, the greens very fast, and driving the cart through the rough is akin to riding a rollercoaster with all the mounds.
Still, it was a nice setting, quiet morning. My play was completely undisturbed by other golfers (I saw one group a few holes ahead of me, but otherwise I had three hours of solitude).
I hit some balls on the range after my round. Simple range, with a few pins in different directions designating distance up to 220.
Both individuals I encountered in the pro shop were very friendly and accommodating, even offering to let me take my cart to the range or driving me back to my car when I was done (I opted to walk, cause it wasn't far, but nice of them to offer).
I'll probably go back again sometime if I can get another round for under-$20 deal.
Unique course
Forget the vanity and curbside appeal. Cherry Wood is actually a unique, challenging course. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The course features several ponds and obstacles. A pretty different and cool round of golf.
Fast play
Great place to practice or take a new golfer. Lots of wildlife, and some bugs too! You can play 18 holes less than 2 hrs.
save your money
got tee time for 17 dollars it was too expensive for this place should have been 10$.first thing staff said was their phone number was on the card too call them because their carts always break down.
abysmal
Don't waste your time. The fairways are non existent. Greens are pretty bad at best. Tee boxes?Bring a hammer. Carts are borderline death traps. Not worth the time or money. The staff was nice and that is about the only nice thing about cherry wood.
not much of a course. mowed fields...maybe. ok course for beginners to play. fairways were like concrete, no tee boxes. plays as if built on old strip mine. cart paths are better suited for quads, not golf carts.
